A Photo a Day in August

I'm joining Megan at The Byron Life for A Photo a Day in August. I've been needing a little inspiration kick, and this seems like a nice one.


These are backgrounds for a new series of work called 'Suburbia'. They're the collaborative pieces that I'm working on with CurlyPops and will eventually be painted and then covered in beautiful bright flowers and other lovely things you might find in a suburban garden. They'll be ready for Made n' Thornbury next month.

You might like to know that the last of the Tinnies, and the limited edition Woollies, will only be hanging around until Sunday 23rd August. After that time is going to be limited for a while so I've had to prioritise things. Besides I'm feeling like I need a nice sense of closure on the Tinnies. Anyway, now you've got a timeframe. Get yourself a Tinnie or a Woollie before the 23rd, or before everyone else gets them.

Right, off to check out some markets with my crafty-partner-in-crime.

The Woollies Are Here, The Woollies Are Here

A gorgeous Tinnie that comes with two lovely balls of Australian Merino wool, buttons and a random mix of 8 vintage knitting patterns. The patterns are mostly 50's and 60's and include items for women, men and children. There's a couple that include tea cosies or soft toys, and even a couple with socks and a little bit of crochet.



I've got 5 Woollies listed in the shop. They cost $25US each plus postage fees. There are 5 different colourways - medium blue, deep blue, mauve, deep purple and deep red. However, as these are completely one of a kind there is only one of each colourway so it's going to be first come, first served.

So 5 Tinnies left and 5 new Woollies. Once they're gone...THAT'S ALL FOLKS!

6 Little Tinnies

There's only 6 Tinnies left in the shop. I've put them all in one section and I'm having a final special. These last Tinnies all come with at least 5 fat quarters of fabric (and buttons and notions of course). I'm destashing the Tinnie cupboard so you're likely to get maybe 6 or more fat quarters.

You'll also get a gorgeous tiny tinnie of mixed buttons. These tiny sweet tins are only about 2 inches tall and 1 inch square across the top.

Now if you happen to be a knitter I've got something super special, super vintage, super limited edition and super gorgeous planned for you. You'll have to come back on Friday to see what it is though. Think Tinnie but with a wool kind of leaning. Oh, they are so good. And the best bit - there's only going to be 4 or 5 of them. Ever.

A box for socks from Button Tree Lane. Seriously, if you don't have a 'sunnyboy' or a 'box for socks' get yourself to Michelle's shop.

An abundance of gorgeous greeting cards and tags from Percival Road Designs (that I haven't managed to take photos of). Below is an example of her work though.

I love the way Anastasia puts colours together, and combines vintage and new. Her blog too is a constant delight.

Some purchasing

A pretty needle case from Selina's Vintage. I saw the one that CurlyPops picked up and popped straight over to Selina's shop to get myself one. It was one of those things that I'd been saying I was going to make for so long. It was lovely to treat myself and to support someone else's creativity.


I've been wanting one of Dear Fii's wristlet pin cushions since I saw them at the Stitches and Craft Show in March. Finally pressed the purchase button and I can't wait for it to arrive. I think I'll just wear it all the time, it's so pretty. Have you checked out all the great things happening for Fi lately. She's a rock star I'm telling you, and I'm so excited for her.

I'm ever so grateful for all the Tinnie love over the last few days. Here, here, here and people purchasing the last of the Tinnies over in the shop.

I'm really feeling the letting go of the Tinnies. They were my first foray into making a living from my creativity. An enormous and exciting first step. I read this post over at Sparrow Salvage yesterday about letting go. Go and read it if you have time. It says it all.

Boundary Issues

We've spoken about it before, she and I, but the message never seems to get through. Cats on the ottoman is a YES, cats on the coffee table is a definite NO. Lucky for her she's so cute.

Never Say Never

I've finally found the perfect combination of ingredients for a shop update - new tins, sunlight for photography and a little bit of time and energy.


So, if you pop over to the shop, you'll find a stack of new Tinnies ready for your viewing pleasure.


I'm definitely a never say never kind of girl BUT I'm pretty sure that these will be the last Tinnies you'll see for a while, if not forever. I certainly won't be doing them as a regular thing, despite kinds words of protest from lots of lovely crafty gals.


If you've ever thought you might like to enjoy the Tinnie experience, now's the time to do it. It may very well be your last chance.


I've also marked down the last of the Luckies. They're a bargain at $10US or Aussie folk can purchase directly from me for $20AUD including postage.

Time to get on with my collages, and a couple of other new ideas that I'm brewing. Perhaps a little sleep first....

I've just signed up for an online stencilry class over at Dispatch from LA. You can get all the details here. I can't wait to stretch myself in new creative directions and see what comes of it.

Speaking of stretching, I've signed up for a stall at the September and December Made n' Thornbury market. I'll be focusing specifically on collage and mixed-media work for these markets. I'm simply buzzing about taking this next step, and full of ideas for works I want to make (including - fingers crossed - some collaborative works with CurlyPops).


If you can't wait till September you can still pick up some of my very first group of collages in the shop.

What Emma Said

Long ago in a land far away a Tinnie set off on a great adventure. Off to live in a new place with a wonderful creative woman. Around the same time that happened TinnieGirl was thinking about writing a post about her love of tins, about why she loves new tins as much as vintage ones, about why creating Tinnies is such a wonderful thing to do.

Sometimes other people articulate exactly what you want to say so eloquently that you don't need to say it yourself. Here's what Emma said:

"...have i mentioned i have a thing for tins? not really? well i do, i think i have around thirty of them now both vintage and new ones. the more shabby and battered a tin is, the more interesting it is. it has a story, it has been used, it hasn't sat on a shelf and gathered dust, it has lived (well, as much as an inanimate object can live...). although i do love the idea of new tins and giving them their own story, so that one day they will go and live with someone else, someone who would treasure them as much as i did..."
