More Than A Few Words

I've been reading lots of my favourite blogs New Year posts. Reading about words for the year, themes, goal and resolutions. I've been wanting to post some thoughts of my own, put my own set of New Year plans out there into the universe but nothing has been coming. I've had a major case of writer's block. Finally today a picture started to form and my thoughts came together.

If I were to have a word for this year it would be ENJOY. I'd like to enjoy life more, enjoy taking risks, enjoy the good things that have been happening in my life, enjoy moving forwards with my dreams and goals, enjoy my relationships with people and enjoy each and every day for what it is. Those who know me would probably agree that I tend to be quite a serious person, perhaps even a little intense at times. It's how I am and I don't mind. However, I'd like to temper it a tad and I think a word like "ENJOY" is the perfect reminder.

If I were to dream big dreams this year I would:
  • Earn enough money from my creative business to drop a day at work by the end of the year
  • Lose enough weight to feel happy and healthy in my body again
  • Have an established exercise routine that I adhere to consistently
  • Have a winter holiday to somewhere in Northern Australia and celebrate next New Year in Thailand with friends
If I were to set some goals for 2009 they would look like this:
  • Keep establishing and developing Tinniegirl
  • Learn more about marketing a craft business
  • Lose 20kg
  • Exercise 4-5 times a week
  • Eat healthy and nutritious food and enjoy treats in moderation
  • Spend more time in my studio
  • Make a patchwork quilt
  • Spend more time outdoors
If I were to ask the universe for some gifts it would be these:
  • People who like and accept me just as I am, and a few who even love me for it. In 2008 2 people who I though were best friends taught me that sometimes people can't accept you faults and all, and departed my life when I most needed them. I've been lucky to fill the holes with some lovely and unexpected new friends. However, it was, and still is, extremely painful and it is taking me a long time to stop blaming myself for not being perfect. In 2009 I'd like to not have to learn hard lessons about friendship and to enjoy the company of true friends.
  • A return to full health for Ms L. 2 years of sickness and exhaustion is enough. It has worn us both out and I wish for her to be well again and to have the chance to fully enjoy life again.
That said, I'm ready to start 2009. Words, dreams, goals and gifts. ENJOY!

  1. I love that we posted our words at the same time!

One of the "be" tips to myself (but I did not write it in my post) was "be kind enough to yourself to let bad friendships go". And then coupled with your word, we could add "enjoy making new friends"!

Have a great 2009. I think it will be a fantastic year for us!

  2. ...i enjoyed reading your post...think the main one you have written is 'enjoy yourself'...i hope 2009 is filled with joy, including health, for you and those you love...

  3. I love your goals! If you were to make them goals of course...
I definetly agree with the "Eat healthy and nutritious food and enjoy treats in moderation." So let's all 'enjoy' more fruit and home cooked meals! Let's all 'enjoy' taking walks and seeing the beautiful flowers in peoples gardens. Actually, I take my camera with me when I walk. It makes it more fun to see what inspiring things you can capture!

  4. .... and I hope that:

1: you achieve all your goals

    or

2: you achieve some of them and feel happy with your achievements, gaining happiness from your experiences and new lessons learned along the way

  5. What a lovely post. You're getting me all teary eyed!
I agree with Michelle - over time, people change and friendships change... it's the circle of life.

My wish is that you receive everything you could ever dream of, but most importantly, health and happiness for you and Ms L.

  6. A lovely post, thank you.

It's sometimes so easy to forget to stop and enjoy what is happening now rather than always looking ahead, waiting for next week/the weekend/the end of the year. Enjoying means accepting that things aren't going to be perfect; it's not always in your control, and lovely, unexpected things do happen.

    Happy 2009!

  7. These are really good, positive words to start the year with. I kind of relate to the friends thing having been disappointed myself by a few close friends in 08 hence my resolution is to spend more time with the people who have time for me.

Wishing you the best success in 09, I look forward to popping in here and reading all about it :)

  9. I wish for you lots to 'enjoy' this year. I too learnt last year that friendships come and go and the ones that you think will always be there may not be but I guess that's life and there are always new experiences around the corner!........I look forward to meeting you in person soon.

  11. It's good to set goals and make lists, I need to start thinking about some plans and solid deadlines for 2009 projects myself... but at the same time it is always important to make time to unwind and enjoy life.
I think 2009 is going to be a good year - I can feel it in my waters! :)

  13. I was visiting a favourite blog recently and saw one of your wonderful 'tinnies' - just lovely. It's a great concept and I hope this year is creative and fulfilling, full of fun and good health for you both, and that you will be surrounded by people who share and support your passions and love you exactly as you are. Having said that, exercising 4-5 times a week! I would expire on the spot. I'm aiming for 3 :)

  19. I love this post and read it before but didn't have any words at my fingertips.

I still feel a bit 'fingertied' but I didn't want to pass by without telling you how much I enjoyed your post. I love the word enjoy. It's an 'in the moment' word. Perfect. :-)

So many lovely things in store for 2009. It inspires me.

  22. What a great post - I hope the Universe is listening and brings you everything you hope for, and I'm sure that even just being aware of the need to 'Enjoy' life, makes all the little everyday things more enjoyable anyway.... if you know what I mean...
Happy New Year, and here's to a fantastic and enjoyable 2009. Cheers, Bec

  24. this is such a lovely inspiring post Cathy, thank you for sharing your hopes and dreams and goals with us!! I too have lost friends years ago for no apparent reason except I didn't want to "keep up" with them so even though I sometimes torture myself as to how I must of been a terrible friend I really try not to waste my energy now on thinking about them. There is a proverb "to have one TRUE friend in this life we are truly lucky" when I was a lot younger I used to think gee one is not many, but now I know what it means and how true it is!!

  25. They all seem like very wise and worthy wishes. May they waste no time in finding you!

  26. Words can be so powerful when you write them down. i love your Enjoy theme, its about living the moment something I want to do more in 2009 after a hard 2008. I hope some of your wishes come true and you truly enjoy 2009.

  27. Beautiful post Cathy. Thank you for being such a good commenter on my blog also.

You put your hopes and dreams out there honestly and once you've named them, you are on your way.

I think some friendships are outgrown just as favorite clothes are when we are children. We love something so much we want to keep wearing it but we have grown and need something that fits us as we are now.

I have a long term friend myself and our lives no longer seem to fit each other. It's hard because when her life changes enough to have room for me, I may be too old to appreciate it or have a place for it. Wisdom tells me to be grateful for what was, and move on. But it's hard at times.
