{now we're getting somewhere}

One, Two, Three
Layers 1, 2 & 3

Four
Layer 4

Five
Layer 5

Six and Seven
Layer 6 & 7

This is what I've been working on for the last couple of days.  Lots and lots of splashing paint around, making marks, spraying water.  Not much thinking, certainly no over-thinking, a process of simply making colour and creating depth.  It's really fun and the more I play with Flora's techniques the more I understand her process of letting go, but perhaps not completely.  There's a natural rhythm, a subtle noticing of where colour needs to go to bring the piece to life, a gentle balancing.  I'm loving this part of the process.

The hard bit comes next for me.  Taking the groundwork and turning it into something more cohesive.  Flora encouraged us to continue to stay loose, to let the painting come to life of it's own accord.  I haven't quite found my way with it yet.  I get a bit stuck at this point.  How to take it from a beautifully rich piece of colour and pattern and turn it into a more cohesive artwork.  It's a mystery.

The journey continues.  Always.

  1. The circles still dominate so perhaps working within wherever circles take you. I really like the rain droppy idea in layer 5. Closing my eyes and squinting I think maybe even Japanese influence?Cherrie

  4. It's fascinating seeing your art in process Cathy. Each stage is beautiful in its own right.
    I particularly love the colours at layer 4, but then I love the depth the next layers have... you must be having so much fun!

  6. Hey Cath...I'm right with you there...feeling my way too and really enjoying the process and the unexpected discoveries. Yep, next stage is the hardest but try to remember to be bold...I just turned one of my owls upside down yesterday and he all but disappeared into a field of flowers!He's still in there somewhere standing on his head but very well camouflaged :) The pic on my latest post is the one I'm talking about...are you still on hols?

  7. I think i like the earlier layers better. And how different they all look, it's like they are all different paintings. I don't really like the last layer it's a bit washed out. Let's see what you make of it!:)
