The Curse Of The Clean Hands

There's only the tiniest bit of action happening in the studio this week. Finishing up items for a couple of missed deadlines and getting some swaps and prizes ready to send off.

I realised yesterday that I haven't picked up a paintbrush or dabbed my finger in oil sticks since Easter. That's almost 3 weeks. No wonder I'm feeling a little out of sorts.

I do wonder at times like these about chickens and eggs. Did the lack of painting lead to feeling blah, or did the blahs come and take the painting away? Whichever way, I intend to rectify the situation this weekend.

Move along now. More Creative Spaces to be found at Kootoyoo.

  2. Life gets in the way, then I start doubting my own talent, then I think there are so many wonderful artists out there why do I bother - but then, one night (it's usually quite late) I pick up a paintbrush and paint something that's quite rubbish. Then the next day I can't stop my head from planning something good to paint and then sometimes it actually works and we're back on track again, full of energy and too excited to sleep.
Ride the wave. The next one will pick you up again!
We'll now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

  5. I'm sure we all get like this, it's hard to motivate yourelf sometimes. I think you get out of the loop and once you make yourself get back in it then things usually fall into place. Don't be too hard on yourself, all your creativity is there, bubbling away until you are ready! xo

  10. Girl, what are you talking about? YOU ARE A PAINTER. That doesn't stop when you're not painting.
Here's what I wrote in my journal the day after we met for coffee:
"Cathy had a really refreshing perspective on how she as shifted her attitude to better serve her circumstances. She is listening carefully to, and learning to trust, her intuition. She's taken the pressure off and knows that what she needs to bring her dreams to fruition will arrive when the timing is right.
She can recognise the pivotal moments (i.e. her journey painting, cycling across the Golden Gate bridge) in her journey, and is open to what they have to teach her.
I really like the way she talks about her art and her writing: they are clearly a non-negotiable part of her daily life and one on which she intends to build a future livelihood. I envy her trust and confidence and I'm going to try taking the pressure off myself and adopt her attitude of "Yeah, it will happen" and not overthink things before they have even begun."
Now get ye to that studio and get ye MESSY! :-)

  12. Start with small things Cathy and I promise the mo-jo will return. I've just come off the back of 3 months completely mini things and all of a sudden I woke and wham I was back into it once more.
Go easy on yourself and enjoy the mini break (as hard as it is on that creative side of the brain!)
